The writer Nigel Kneale died on October 29. Although best known for Quatermass and the TV version of 1984 starring Peter Cushing, my particular favourite of his was The Stone Tape.
Made for TV in the early 1970s but now available on DVD, this really is worth seeing. A group of scientists investigating an apparently haunted house discover that something sinister has been recorded, or taped, in ancient stones used as building material. An accident causes the tape to be wiped, although this reveals something even more horrible lurking underneath…
In the last few days there’s been good and bad news in the science fiction world.
