Dinner Party Blues

Thursday August 3, 2006 in |

We held a small dinner party recently and my wife, as usual, was first to grab some CDs to play. My wife, as usual, chose Frank Sinatra and Elvis. Don’t get me wrong, I like Frank Sinatra and Elvis, but I found myself itching to change the music after a while. I took out ‘The Madcap Laughs’ by Syd Barrett and was about to put it on when I thought to myself “maybe this isn’t suitable for a dinner party”. ‘The Madcap Laughs’ is one of my favourite albums, but unless you’re having David Bowie, Julian Cope and Graham Coxon round for tea, it isn’t really dinner party material.

I’ve compiled a still-incomplete list of favourite albums that, although favourite, are still dinner party no-nos. I’ll be going back to this post and adding to the list as I think of more. I also invite readers to add to them. This is what I have so far:

Why I Might be Obsessed With my Website...

Wednesday June 28, 2006 in |

Missing breakfast before I leave for work in the morning because those ten minutes are better spent checking comments and visitor logs.

Running a few pages of my site through the W3C Validator while I’m at work ‘just to be on the safe side’.

Missing lunch because my half hour break is better spent jotting down ideas for new posts.

Dashing home from work because I’ve realised I can change part of my CSS file from border:0px to border:0.

Waking up in the middle of the night worried that I haven’t posted anything for a day.

Getting up in the middle of the night to visit the toilet and thinking “I may as well check my visitor logs while I’m up.”

Staying up in the middle of the night and rewriting some ‘alt’ text.

Not getting back to sleep as I decide whether or not to change from ‘fixed-width’ to ‘fluid-width’.
