Me and my Humax

I really love my Humax. Don’t be alarmed. I’ll start at the beginning.

Last Christmas I bought a Humax PVR 9200T. A Freeview box with a hard drive that has revolutionised our home life (it hasn’t cut down on telly-related arguments, but that’s outside the scope of this post).

I’ve got so fed up with listening to the radio in the car that I’ve taken to driving to and from work in silence. This is the alternative to the inane banter, terrible music and flirting between DJs and female newsreaders/travel reporters that I have been forced to take. I’ve given up trying to work out what the hell Terry Wogan is on about. And even though I gave him a second chance, I really can’t bear Chris Evans.

We don’t have a CD player in our car and the cassette player is broken. So it’s radio or singing to yourself or nothing. I tried singing but it didn’t do anything for me.

Jog Blog - The Final Frontier - Bristol Half Marathon 2006

Well I did it, and apart from some sore inner thighs, very stiff legs and a blister taking up most of my right foot, I didn’t come out of it too badly.

Prior to this race I had premonitions of my body suddenly giving in on me as it warned “you can’t keep living your life like a 20 year old and THEN think you can get up on a Sunday morning and run a half marathon!” Well, I didn’t live my life like a 20 year old last night as I was in bed by 9.30. But I do sometimes. So I was worried that I might have to drop out of the race due to either a) lack of serious training b) excess weight gain from recent holiday c) increasing age. But the thing was, even though I did have an early night I still found it hard to get up, and getting ready and having breakfast took a great deal of effort.
