Just Wild About Harry

From Booking Through Thursday.
Okay, love him or loathe him, you’d have to live under a rock not to know that J.K. Rowling’s final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, comes out on Saturday… Are you going to read it? If so, right away? Or just, you know, eventually, when you get around to it? Are you attending any of the midnight parties? If you’re not going to read it, why not? And, for the record… what do you think? Will Harry survive the series? What are you most looking forward to?
I have pre-ordered my copy of The Deathly Hallows from Amazon so I’m expecting it to come flying through the letterbox sometime on Saturday morning. Making sure I receive the book on the first day is about as far as I’m taking it though; I won’t be attending any midnight parties and I won’t drop everything to read the book from beginning to end in one magical session. As it’s the last one in the series I think it’s worth savouring, although I’m slightly worried about people releasing spoilers who’ve read it first and … well … spoiling it for me.
Although there are rumours that Harry will die I can’t really see this happening. I read something about J.K.Rowling downing a bottle of champagne and weeping drunkenly after she’d finished writing the book – maybe she’s killed him or another major character off, maybe it’s just an emotional experience for her. Not sure how I’d react to finishing the last line of a phenomenally successful series of books…
What I’ll probably miss the most is losing the sense of occasion that – let’s face it – rarely happens when a new book is released. The latest Harry Potter film has also just come out but I’m already bored with it – blockbuster films are released every week and are hyped so much I don’t want to see them – but – call me an old softie – there’s something romantic and right about a new book being celebrated…
I’m with you on the spoilers! I’ve only read up to #4, so it’ll be a while before I read the final installment; and when I do I don’t want to know the ending! I’m trying to think of ways to avoid accidentally learning anything, but I don’t fancy my chances.

I know what you mean about the excitement I haven’t preordered and Amazon now can’t deliver until next week so a midnight opening is looking like a bit of fun and a chance to get my hands on a copy this weekend.

I only read up to book #3 and have will get to book #4 soon. I probably won’t read The Deadly Hallows right away…well that depend on if am tempted to. But yes I know you’re thinking am crazy if I just read the latest one and not finish up book #3-6 first LOL….
Happy Harry Potter fun Weekend!

Amazon is bringing my copy too! Each new release has been around the same time as my birthday, so it’s my standing order; I don’t know what I’ll do without a new HP to look forward to!

Waiting for the final book. Have stopped taking calls even from family. And I’m cutting myself off from all until I’ve finished my first read. I am pretty sure Harry lives, but am not hopeful for few other of my favorite characters. My best prediction-Snape is good. Enjoying the moment of discovery is the most exciting part. Best wishes to all this weekend. I doubt we will be able to enjoy such a moment in the future.

I have been battling that how much will be too much . . . I may prolong posting any review of the book for a little while even though I have no plans on revealing any spoilers.
I admit that I have been swept up in the hype to some degree. It’s wonderful to see so many excited about a new book.

I’m planning to read this next week once I’ve finished Pat Barker’s Life Class. I might try a spoiler free review but I don’t know if this is possible without the chance of ruining the book for somebody in the slightest possible way.
Interestingly, there’s a review in today’s Guardian. I decided not to read it and then I had a quick peek before tearing myself away. Not really spoilers but giving away the general gist of the plot which I don’t want to know!
