iDon't-Think-So

Tuesday September 19, 2006 in |

I’ve got so fed up with listening to the radio in the car that I’ve taken to driving to and from work in silence. This is the alternative to the inane banter, terrible music and flirting between DJs and female newsreaders/travel reporters that I have been forced to take. I’ve given up trying to work out what the hell Terry Wogan is on about. And even though I gave him a second chance, I really can’t bear Chris Evans.

We don’t have a CD player in our car and the cassette player is broken. So it’s radio or singing to yourself or nothing. I tried singing but it didn’t do anything for me. Then I remembered. We have an iTrip at home. An unused, neglected iTrip. I found it last night and dusted it off. I then copied all of my latest CDs onto the iPod. This isn’t an easy job, and I keep hearing reports about how iPods are losing their popularity because they are so difficult to update with music. I take this with a pinch of salt, as the iPod generation is also becoming the feed-me-on-a-drip generation. So I get down to copying my CDs, but it isn’t an easy task because I could never get iTunes to install on our computer, although it is on our old laptop. So I have to copy my CDs upstairs and then run downstairs to load them into iTunes and then onto the iPod. So I am running up and down like mad clutching a memory stick. A memory stick that doubles up as a keyring, so I am also jangling away like a crazy jailer.

But I’ve already told you I’m useless with computers.

This morning I climb into the car with my iPod and iTrip. I’m slightly early, so I have time to tune it all in. I am ready to listen to the Richard Hawley CD and rid myself of TOGS forever. But you can guess the rest. I’m trying to find an empty radio station to tune the iTrip into but it isn’t as easy as I thought. I think I’ve found one but Richard Hawley keeps morphing into KissFM. It sounds like one of Radio 1’s more experimental remixes.

Why do things starting with a little ‘i’ give me so much grief?

Also file under iDon’t-Believe-It. Any other obvious puns?

iRecommend Radio 4.

Although I’ve just taken delivery of a Pure Evoke 3 DAB radio, which lets you record programmes as MP3s onto an SD card. The theory being that I can record loads of good radio that’s on when I’m out at work or asleep for later listening.

So you could do the same and transfer the MP3s onto your iPod via your PC for the car. But that might be approaching iAmLosingTheWillToLive territory.

I need to do something like you have – I miss so much good stuff on the radio but the only time I get to listen to it is in Wogan/Evans time during my daily commute.

Radio 4 yes – maybe it’s time to grow up.

Tccch. What’s wrong with inane banter anyway? Oh wait – I remember.

Although to be honest, I tend to listen to Radio 2 and/or Radio 5 so I’m quite used to a LOT of inane banter…
