Christmas Playlist

I’ve recently been playing around with Last FM and have added a widget to my sidebar. Not quite music while you work, but certainly music while you blog. The other evening I added 15 new songs to my playlist; all with a Christmas theme. But it’s already changing. I’m not sure if I can take another four weeks of Do They Know It’s Christmas? and the irony of including Shakin’ Stevens is going to wear off.
So I think my list will slowly become more alternative. It’s already going that way already. I’ve added Wires by Athlete (it mentions Christmas in the lyrics) and Mad World by Gary Jules, a Christmas Number One from a few years back. Any other suggestions for alternative Christmas songs?
Thanks for mentioning this. When Pandora stopped allowed me to play from a non-US isp address, I was nearly sunk. This is so similar – hooray!

My vote would be Jona Lewie’s Stop the Cavalry. It’s frequently cited as a christmas song anyway, but it’s really just an anti-war song and if it wasn’t for the line “I wish I was at home for Christmas” would have bugger-all to do with that time of year…
Or if you want some novelties… “wombling merry christmas” (the wombles), “proper crimbo” (bo selecta), “christmas wrapping” (the waitresses). Be warned though: once you’ve heard Wombling Merry Christmas twice you’ll be wanting to put your foot through the speakers…
Or if you want a relatively decent but not so commonly heard song, how about Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby”? (or as my young ‘un says, “baby Santa”)

Sounds a decent compilation album (apart from the Elton John one, which is just too cheesy for me – I’d rather have the wombles). When is it released?

Oh yes, you are the top two when you Google it. The third result is a forum that claims it’s actually tsar and Jim, and Jim as in Jimmy Carter. Not sure if I believe this though.
A Christmas list has to have the required amount of cheese.
