"Pay Attention 007": a James Bond Meme

Monday November 27, 2006 in |

I’m sorry, but I’ve just put this one off for too long. A James Bond meme. They’re easy questions and only short answers are required.

Favourite Bond film

Dr No because it set the blueprint for all the others and it hasn’t dated too badly for a film made in 1962. The movie that launched a million Sean Connery impersonations. The spider scene is still pretty effective as well.

Least favourite Bond film

Die Another Day. Madonna and cinema don’t go together, and nor do John Cleese and Q.

Corniest scene in a Bond film

The joke “he’s attempting re-entry”, from Octopussy or one of the films around that sorry late Moore era.

First Bond moment you can remember as a child

One that sticks in my mind is Roger Moore and a girl tied up and suspended over a tank full of sharks (Live and Let Die?). The baddy cuts his arm and the blood drips down into the water to excite the sharks. This really frightened me when I saw it at the pictures as a child.

Best baddy

Gert Frobe as Goldfinger or Donald Pleasance as Blofield.

Best scene

Goldfinger and Connery with the laser (“I’m expecting you to die Mr Bond!”) or My Kidd and Mr Wint from Diamonds are Forever (the scorpion down the back of the shirt).

Best joke

Sean Connery electrocutes a man in a bath and quips “shocking!”

Best Bond girl

Diana Rigg in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. A sophisticated female character, or posh totty as they probably said in 1969.

Best song

You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra or All the TIme in the World by Louis Armstrong.

Bond films: time to leave it or is there still life in the series?

I would have said a loud leave it! a couple of years ago, but I think Daniel Craig is very promising and there is life in the old spy yet.

I’d also be interested to hear if anybody’s ever played the James Bond drinking game. I never have, although I used to know a chap who had.
